Refugees Hosting in Ethiopia
Ethiopia is the third largest refugee-hosting country in Africa, providing shelter to over 930,000 refugees and asylum seekers. These refugees primarily come from South Sudan, Somalia, and Eritrea. The country has established 24 refugee camps across five regional states, with over 70,000 refugees residing in the capital, Addis Ababa. Source: UN Refugees / UNHCR, 2024.
Lifesaving Humanitarian Assistance
The humanitarian crisis in Ethiopia is severe, with millions of people in need of urgent assistance due to conflict, drought, and food insecurity. The United States has provided over $1.8 billion in humanitarian aid since fiscal year 2022, making it the largest single-country provider of humanitarian assistance in Ethiopia. This aid includes:
Food Assistance: Emergency food support for severely food-insecure families.
Nutritional Support: Programs to prevent and treat malnutrition among pregnant and lactating women and children under five.
Healthcare: Urgent health treatments and support.
Clean Water: Provision of safe drinking water to prevent disease outbreaks.
Protection: Support to protect women and children from violence.
